Ministry of Culture: Mobile App for Curated Cultural Content
The Ministry of Culture holds a large amount of cultural content, and much of it sits on older websites that were not built for phones. We designed and built an iOS and Android app that gathers that material, curates it so a visitor sees something worth reading first, and keeps it connected to the original data rather than copying it. The interface assumes a general audience, from students to people who rarely use apps. This page lists what we delivered, how we worked and the technology behind it.

Project Objectives
- Bring the Ministry's cultural content to a mobile-first public audience.
- Pull data from existing legacy websites without duplicating it by hand.
- Curate the content so that browsing the app is rewarding, not just a list of links.
- Design for a broad public, including people less familiar with apps.
- Let the Ministry keep content current without developer involvement.
- Provide a platform the Ministry can extend with new features over time.
What We Delivered
- A native-feeling mobile app for iOS and Android
- Cultural content curation, so the app has a considered structure
- Integration with data from legacy websites
- UX/UI design suited to a broad, non-technical public audience
- A content structure the Ministry can keep current internally
- Accessibility-conscious interface patterns
- Handover documentation for content and integration
How We Built It
Stakeholder and data discovery
We mapped the websites and data sources holding the cultural content. Knowing what exists and in what form decided how much could be pulled in automatically.
UX/UI design
We designed for a broad public audience and put clarity before density. Content is organized by what a visitor wants to explore, not by which department published it.
Mobile app development
We built the app and integrated it with the legacy website data. New and updated content from those sources reaches the app without retyping.
Handover and extension planning
We delivered the app with a structure the Ministry can extend with future features. Curation and content tools were handed over so editors can keep the app fresh.
Technology & Tools
Results
- The new app extends the Ministry's cultural content to a mobile-first audience.
- Data integration avoids duplicating records from legacy websites.
- Curated content gives visitors something worth exploring.
- The interface is designed for a broad, non-technical public user base.
- The Ministry can extend the platform and maintain content on its own.
