Excise Department: Tax Verification Mobile App with Cross-Agency Data

The Excise Department wanted to bring a tax verification service to people's phones. The work was less about screens than about connecting to data that already lives in other government systems and making the result easy to read. Haliviq designed and developed the iOS and Android app, including the cross-agency integration that lets it answer a question on the day it launches. We aimed for a clear interface that does not assume technical knowledge, a content setup the department can maintain, and a base it can add to later. Read on for the deliverables, process and technology.

Project Objectives

  • Bring the department's tax verification service to a mobile-first public audience.
  • Connect to data held by other agencies through integration rather than copying records.
  • Make verification results readable for people who are not familiar with excise processes.
  • Design for a broad public, including users who do not use apps often.
  • Let the department keep content up to date without developer involvement.
  • Build a platform the department can extend with further services over time.

What We Delivered

  • A native-feeling mobile app for iOS and Android
  • A tax verification system inside the app
  • Cross-agency data integration with existing government databases and systems
  • UX/UI design suited to a broad, non-technical public audience
  • A content structure the department can keep current internally
  • Accessibility-conscious interface patterns
  • Handover material covering the integration and the content tools

How We Built It

1

Stakeholder and data discovery

We identified which agencies hold the data the verification depends on and how each exposes it. Understanding those connections first meant fewer surprises during development.

2

UX/UI design

We designed for clarity over density. The verification flow asks only for what it needs and shows a result in language a member of the public can follow.

3

Mobile app development

We built the app and wired the verification to the existing data sources across agencies. Secure authentication protects the parts that need it.

4

Handover and extension planning

We delivered the app in a structure that lets the department add services later. Content tools and integration notes were handed over so the department is not dependent on us for routine changes.

Results

  • The new app brings the department's verification service to a mobile-first audience.
  • Cross-agency integration avoids duplicating records across systems.
  • Verification results are presented in an interface designed for non-technical users.
  • The platform is structured so the department can add capability over time.
  • The department updates content on its own.

FAQ

Short answers about this project.

A public-sector mobile app with system integration like this typically takes around two to three months. The time needed to access and test each agency's data affects the schedule most.

A cross-platform mobile app framework integrated with existing agency databases, deployed on cloud infrastructure with secure authentication.

The app reads data that belongs to other government bodies instead of keeping its own copy. The result stays consistent with the source and the department does not maintain duplicate records.

The interface is designed for a broad public audience, with plain wording and a short flow, so people without a background in excise processes can use it.

Yes. The app and its integration layer are structured so that new services can be added to the same platform.

Yes. The data-integration and accessible-UX approach applies to other public agencies taking services to mobile. We scope the integration work around each agency's systems.
