MBK Center: Mobile App for Store Discovery and Membership

A mall visitor usually has two questions: where is that shop, and what deals are on today? MBK Center asked us for an app that answers both quickly, and that gives its members a reason to open it each time they visit. We designed and built an iOS and Android app with a store and promotion search, a membership and rewards layer, and an admin side where the marketing team publishes listings and offers itself. The app is meant to be used on-site, one-handed, in the middle of a walk. This page covers the deliverables, the process and the technology.

Project Objectives

  • Give shoppers a fast way to find a specific store or a current promotion inside a large mall.
  • Turn membership perks into something shoppers check on purpose, not a card they forget in a wallet.
  • Reduce reliance on static directory signage for store and promotion information.
  • Let the mall's marketing team push offers to shoppers directly through the app.
  • Design for use on the move, with short flows that work in the middle of a visit.
  • Keep store and promotion data current through a simple admin tool instead of engineering requests.

What We Delivered

  • A native-feeling mobile app for iOS and Android
  • A store and promotion search system with real-time content
  • A membership and rewards system integrated into the app
  • UX/UI design covering onboarding, search and member account flows
  • Push notification support for offers and updates
  • An admin-side content structure for the mall's marketing team
  • Guidance for the team on managing listings and promotions after launch

How We Built It

1

User and stakeholder research

We looked at how shoppers actually search for stores and promotions while on-site, and how the mall team manages store data today. This kept the design tied to real behaviour in the building.

2

UX/UI design

We designed search, promotion browsing and membership flows for in-the-moment use. Each flow is short enough to finish while walking, and the most common task, finding a store, is first on the screen.

3

Mobile app development

We built the app with the store and promotion search and the membership integration. The data comes from a backend that the marketing team controls.

4

Rollout support

We delivered an admin content structure so marketing can manage listings and promotions directly. We also walked the team through publishing an offer and updating a store entry.

  • The new app gives shoppers a direct alternative to static directory signage.
  • A search system finds stores and promotions in seconds.
  • A membership layer is designed to be checked, not forgotten.
  • The marketing team runs a content pipeline without needing engineering involvement.
  • Offers can reach members through push notifications.

FAQ

Short answers about this project.

A mobile app with search and membership systems like this typically takes around two to three months. Integration with the mall's existing membership data affects the schedule most.

A cross-platform mobile app framework, a dedicated store and promotion search system, and a membership backend connected to the mall's existing systems.

Yes. A cross-platform framework lets us deliver both versions from one codebase, so features and fixes reach both at the same time.

The mall's marketing team does, through an admin panel. They add or change listings and publish offers without sending a request to developers.

Members use the app to see their account and the perks currently available to them. It sits next to the store search, so checking a reward becomes part of the visit rather than a separate task.

Yes. The store-search and membership design suits other multi-tenant retail or shopping-mall operators. We adapt the data sources, the membership rules and the admin tools to each operator.
